One morning a couple of months ago I started my computer only to be greeted with windows trying to do the startup repair tool. Much to my chagrin every option that was listed did not work. I followed all of the trouble shooting steps that I found on the forums and even more that were on the internet but to no avail. My computer would not start, it would not get past the system repair tool screen, and even a clean install using the system start up repair tools wouldn't even work. All of my system restore points were inaccessible or deleted as well.

After almost two weeks of diligently trying different methods of trying to get my computer back to it's previous state I was forced to migrate all my previous computer data to a new hard drive and do a fresh install of Windows 10. Luckily enough Windows 10 installed without a hitch recognizing my license from my previous computer however I many of programs were lost in the migration between my old hard drive and my new hard drive. My biggest issue with this whole situation is that Microsoft Office 2010 Suite that I had previously purchased were no longer present on my computer. I had downloaded this through my school previously and have been using them for the past 7 years until this crash in March. I was finally able to find time in my busy life in the middle of the night to try and get this problem solved but even when I tried addressing this issue with a chat service representative I was not able to find a solution that would get me back to work without having to repurchase the entire suite again.

I was lucky enough to recover my data from this situation but now I may still have to pay for a situation that I did not cause in the first place. I would have provided my product code but I had downloaded it through my school at that time and now that I am out of school I no longer have access to that email account as the school does annual maintenance to get rid of old student accounts from the system for security reasons.

"Why not just purchase a new license?" I had previously purchased a license and I feel as though if the startup repair issue hadn't occurred I would still be able to use said license. I was not asking for an upgrade but I was just asking to have access to the old Microsoft Office Suite that I had purchased. Does anyone know of the best way to get this situation taken care of?

Has anyone else had this same startup repair tool error and had as catastrophic of a system failure as I had? Does anyone know exactly why this occurs? Could someone detail the process on how to fix this issue as well? I tried detailing this to a customer service representative but they would not read into the issue any further because I was not able to provide the digital product code that I would have been able to verify if I still had access to that old email account or just had my startup repair tools actually worked.

If the hard drive failed no repair/fix would be possible, if yours is a branded PC, there may be an option in the initial bios boot screen to run a diagnostics utility.

To reinstall many programs you need at least the program key and sometimes the original installation media/file
