Pivot Chart in Excel 2016 (Mac Version)

Trying to create a Pivot chart in Excel 2016 for Mac.

When I do the following

  1. Highlight cell  in Pivot table
  2. Go to Insert tab
  3. select chart type

I get a chart that responds to the filters on the Pivot table.  However the chart is not created correctly.

  1. It does not included the drop down menus you would expect on find on the  chart
  2. It does not pick up the headings, the 1st row of data appear as headings in the legend
  3. The grand total is included in the dataset?

Is this a problem with Mac Excel or am i doing something incorrectly?

A search of the Community using the criteria pivot chart will return numerous Answers to this question, but I'm afraid they all say basically the same thing - Pivot Charts cannot be created in Excel for Mac.

You can cast a vote for this existing feature request:  Include PivotCharts as a feature for Excel for Mac.

Actually, this does work. It does take a person familiar with using a Mac to understand how to do it.

There is no "pivot table chart" button because no button is needed as Charts and Pivot Charts work the same on Mac Excell. There are sublte differences in the way Excel for Mac works from the PC that Mac users should be able to detect.

    Go to your pivot table

Select the range you want in the chart

Go to Insert/Chart, choose a chart

(Nope, there is no "pivot table chart" button, just do a normal chart insert, but using the PIVOT Table cell range)

Then MAKE a SLICER for the pivot table

    Done

The slicer will act as the buttons that show on the PC version. It works.

If you know how to make slicers with a pivot table in Mac Excel they will also work to change the view presented by the graph in the chart if you select the range from the pivot table and not the original data ranges.

There might be a difference between "version" as I only one installed, Excell for Mac 15.3

    Perhaps research is important.

I create charts from Pivot Tables. I select the entire table, choose the type, such as column, then using the data source delete the data I don't want included. Sort the table changes the chart. Works for me.

As I've learned from Microsoft, this answer is wrong.  Apparently there are different version of Excel 2016 for mac.  The home version does not support it.  The more expensive version does :-(
