Hello John,

Thank you for your quick response. As there are 6 active users, and the Custom Domain is being used in BT, you can still add the same custom domain in O365. Both companies have different architecture. Please make sure you download everything (Mails, Calendar Items, Meeting Requests) in one single .pst for individual users on your local pc before making any changes to BT user Accounts.

Create a New Tenant in O365 by Signing Up with your Custom Domain and create 6 users with same Display Name, SMTP (primary Email address) etc., fields manually. Create a different password for the time being so that you would be sure while configuring Outlook that its taking the settings of O365 and not BT as those accounts are also active. Once you disable BT Accounts, you can re-change old passwords of those users. Its recommended that you don't make any changes like disabling User Account, Licenses from BT etc until you are sure that all the information required is replicated to O365 Mailboxes.

Assign the license to all those users to create the mailbox in O365.

Configure Outlook with new profiles on local pc. You can use SARA Tool for configuring it. I highly recommend you to do it. I am providing you the link below:

https://diagnostics.outlook.com/#/

Download it and run it on the pc to configure Outlook with new profile for O365 users.

I hope performing all the above tasks may be time consuming, however you will be able to complete the migration easily.  Still in case if you need any help, I am always here to help you out. You may enjoy a cup of coffee in between while downloading of .pst, importing of .pst after configure new profile in Outlook for O365 users and then those changes getting replicated to cloud in same mailbox happens.

Thanks & Regards,

    Thanks Ajey

There are only six active users, so I guess this is the easiest way.

So I need to get 6 licences with Microsoft, set them up then migrate each one as you suggest, then close my BT accounts once the migration is complete and the system is working with MS.

I should also migrate the domain, do you think it matters where i move that to and would it involve microsoft services in any way?

    John

    Hello John,

I would like to welcome you in the world of always up to date Microsoft Office 365 Family. I can assure you that you will never be disappointed by the level of service and experience you will get here.

I request you to kindly provide us few details like how many user mailboxes, shared mailboxes etc are present at BT. You can even contact BT once for pulling out these details for migration.

In short for one individual let me help you walk through easy steps if you would be using Pop3 protocol while using BT:

    1. Take the backup of the emails in .pst file (locally saved in your pc)
    2. Create a new tenant in O365 with your custom domain.
    3. Create the same user in O365.
    4. Give it a valid license.
    5. Configure Outlook with it and import the old saved .pst file in the new one. Keep the outlook in open state for some time till the imported mails (of BT A/c) gets synced to the O365 user mailbox.

I hope going through the above steps you would have got a rough idea on how an individual email can be imported from BT or any other service provider to O365. I would like to inform you that this is one of the option, In o365 we have many other options to directly migrate as well, however before that we need to know the environment of your BT Account.

    Thanks & Regards,
