eDiscovery - export Onedrive content

Hi!,

I am trying to export the complete content of a users OneDrive for business accunt.

I have done the following:

  • Added my account as an eDiscovey administrator
  • Added my account as administrator of his OneDrive website
  • Created a eDiscovery case as well as a content search but they both end the same.

I search the web site https://tenantname-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user\_domain\_com/ (no filters)

It finds apprx 15Gb of indexed data in one site.

The eDiscovery Tool starts and asks where to save the export and then nothing happens.

The tool says "Waiting for Office 365 to prepare the data" and will do so for at least 8 hours (the longest I have waited).

Below is an excerpt of the log file inside  the download directory.

I have tried to find out what "GetTotalSources failed with error code: 404" means but haven't found any explanation

It keeps repeating this endlessly.

Any advice appreciate!

/Lars

    Hi all,

Turnes out I was only too impatient.

Comparing to exporting a PST, the OneDrive export takes much longer time to complete.

Today my search status page suddenly said:

    "Status

    Scheduling... 100 %

Scheduling export failed with 0 errors.  Details  Retry

    Preparing data... 100 %

You can start downloading the export while we are preparing the data. You can also close this window and check back later.

The export has completed. You can start downloading the results. "

The export has completed with errors. You can start downloading the results.

The export for this search has failed. Please restart the export so you can download the search results.

    Details

    Thank you Rudy and Neha!

    Hi Lars,

For the detailed process, please check the following article to conduct an eDiscovery Center full query including exporting OneDrive for business data: How can I query multiple user’s OneDrive for Business data?, see if this helps.

    Thanks,

    Neha

Hi Rudy and thank you for answering.

Yes, my account is a member of the eDiscovery Manager Group (eDiscovery Administrator) that has Export, RMS Decrypt, Review, Preview, Compliance Search and Case Management and Hold permissions by default.

I am the only administrator so no one else has filled the export quotas. I have tried different OneDrive accounts to export from. I also ran a Microsoft script that added my account as administrator for every OneDrive site within the organization. I have checked the result of the script and it worked.

Exporting mail to PST workes fine though...

    /Lars

    Hello Lars,

May I know whether you have been assigned the Export management role in the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center. For more information, see Assign eDiscovery permissions in the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center.

However, there are some export limits, for example: you can export a maximum of 2 TB of data from a single Content Search, your organization can export a maximum of 2 TB of data during a single day and a single user can run a maximum of three exports at the same time, etc. For your reference: Export limits. Please try it on your side again.

    Hope the above information helpful.

    Regards,

    Rudy
