It is not free. Word's full version has never been free.
Free versions have included:
OfficeLibre (OpenOffice) is free but is not the same program and is not from Microsoft.
WordPad is included with Windows and may do much of what you want.
If you do not have an active subscription (Office 365) or a product key for some (other) version of Office, you will have to purchase it from Microsoft. Various offers can be found here:
https://products.office.com/en-us/compare-all-microsoft-office-products?tab=1
Most versions are subscriptions. However, Office Home & Student is a one-time purchase, so it will be cheaper (but you can only install it on one machine).
Resetting a computer will remove all programs, except for those that are preinstalled by Windows.
You will have to reinstall Office. The exact steps depend on how you purchased Office in the first place. Subscriptions can be managed via http://www.office.com/myaccount. Older versions can be downloaded from https://products.office.com/en-us/download-back-up-restore-microsoft-office-products?tab=ForPC (product key required).
