Stop Text Moving in a table when placing object in Front?

Hi

This is SOOO irritating!!

I want to place an object anywhere in my documents WITHOUT that stupid Anchor!! Surely if you un-check 'Move with Text' AND make the Text Wrapping, 'In Front of Text' then you should be able to put the darn thing wherever you want??

I have a table and I want to place a simple little object (an arrow) near text on top of the table, spanning across 2 cells without moving the text from it's Center Alignment. But the text keeps moving to the top of the cell. I don't want the text to move at all.

I somehow managed to make one work by moving the object off the table and then back onto where I wanted it to be placed in front of the table.

When I went to do another one nothing is working!!

Then I copied and pasted the one that did work and every time I select it to change the size or move it a millimeter, it jumps to the bottom of the table!!!!!

ghhhrrrrrr!

I've searched for a solution but I can only find 'Object jumping around' and not Text. Well I have both issues in this case I guess.

Who had this bright idea that Word should dictate where to place a stupid object??

Help!!

I know this is an old post but I was having the same problem and just figured it out.  At least for me I did.  After choosing wrap text "In Front of Text", I clicked on "More Layouts", then clicked the "Position" tab. I unchecked the box that says "Layout in Table Cell".  Picture would now move without the text moving.  Yay!!

You will have to save in the older file format (*.doc) for that option to become available.

Whether the option is really needed is a different question, though.

What if that box won't let you uncheck it? I was so excited to see this, but that part is shaded and it won't let me uncheck that

I think if you insert an object and try and place it on a table with text you'll get what I mean.

Ok this is what I want

The object (arrow) on top of the table where I put it. All the text stays in place. (center aligned)

But the 2nd image is what I'm getting.

    The text moves up

I just want to know how to detach an object from Text. How not to use the Anchor, EVER.

    This shouldn't be so ridiculous

    Thanks
