The link has been removed

Hello,

We share a link to an excel document each week. The link is edited and viewed by a number of people in our business and also people in a third party business.

For a few months it has worked without any issues.

However, over the last few weeks we have been having issues. After a couple of days some people are unable to edit the document. When they click "Edit in browser" it loads an error page usually saying "The link has been removed, please contact the person who shared it with you". If I am logged in (rather than guest) I can usually still edit it, but this is no good for people external to our business who don't have accounts.

I have checked access and it always says anyone with a link can access. To make it more confusing, sometimes after a few hours it allows guests to edit it again and the error message goes away.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Calum,

This issue can occur when we provide read access to a document that uses draft item security. With this kind of security, only users who have edit abilities can access the document.

In order for us to assist you effectively to resolve the issue, kindly verify the following:

    • Which version of Office are you using? If unsure, refer to the link below:

What version of Office am I using?

    • Are you using OneDrive for Business or OneDrive Personal?

    Let us know.

You may be able to share files with external users by inviting them as “Guests,” or by creating and posting guest links. These links are available by default in Office 365, but administrators can disable external sharing for your sites. For details, see Share sites or documents with people outside your organization.

Site administrators can restrict sharing so that only owners can share files and sites. For information about an admin can enable sharing links, see Video: Share a site without access request.

For further assistance, it is best contacting our OneDrive for Business Team. Once there, just click on Get Help and you will be routed to a OneDrive Training page. Select OneDrive for Business and then click on Contact Us to connect with an expert.

    Regards.
