Moving to a new Office 365 for Business reseller

Hello,

When our old email host, Synoptek, offered "free migration" if we bought our Office 365 Business Premium subscriptions from them, I took them up on it. That was in the beginning of April. They charged us for the subscriptions. I'm still waiting for them to perform the migration. I'm tired of waiting and being strung along when I ask about it.

How can I move the billing for my subscriptions to another Office 365 reseller, preferably one that will do the migrations too? I suppose I'll have to fight with Synoptek to get a refund for the current subscriptions.

    Hello

We are also looking at moving away from the reseller, and going direct through the Microsoft website.

The information I've gathered is to complete this process, we need to cancel the subscriptions with the reseller (at the end of the year, so they don't need to refund anything), and then re-purchase all the licenses we had. I have a couple of questions I'd appreciate if you could answer:

    • Will there be any downtime for our email accounts while they switch over?
    • Can the new licenses be purchased before the old ones are cancelled? Even if the email addresses are the same?
    • What happens to shared mailbox accounts? Do they loose any mail?

    Thanks

    Dwayne

    Hi Tom,

I have gone through all the posts above and I want to clarify something here.

Generally, Office 365 subscriptions purchased from resellers use license keys to access the services. So you could not get a refund and will use the Office 365 subscription until it is expired. Also it is not feasible to directly migrate from one reseller to another. You will need to give up the previous subscription purchased from Synoptek and then purchase a new subscription from another reseller or from Microsoft official channel.

Moreover, as the Office 365 subscriptions got from resellers are different from those purchased directly from Microsoft official channel, you will need to contact the support from the reseller to help. Thanks for your understanding.

    Regards,

    Yang

I appreciate your comments. I'm still working on this problem. Definitely moving to a new reseller. Getting a refund from Synoptek will be the next fight.

    Thanks Sam,

I'll probably just buy from another Microsoft reseller. I need migration help too so I think a more responsive reseller instead of Synoptek would be best.

    Hi Tom,

I understand you want to transfer from one Office 365 tenant to another. In this situation, if the Office 365 subscription is purchased from Microsoft official website directly, you should cancel the original plan and purchase another one. Since your situation is a bit different that the plan is bought from our reseller partner, we recommend you turn to your reseller to either get a refund for the current subscriptions or transfer to another tenant/reseller. Thanks for your time and understanding.

    Regards,

    Sam
