    Hi,

Configuring display scaling or turning on ClearType can help make text sharper and easier to read. You may perform these methods to get smooth fonts.

    Method 1:

    1. Open your Microsoft Office installation folder.
    2. Right-click on Word icon.
    3. Select Properties.
    4. Click on Compatibility tab.
    5. Under Settings, select Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
    6. Click Apply > OK.

Method 2: Use ClearType Text Tuner.

    1. On the Search box, type Adjust ClearType text, then click on the result.
    2. Select or tick the box on Turn on ClearType > Next.
    3. If you have multiple monitors, you will be asked if you want to tune all your monitors now, then click Next.
    4. Windows will check if your monitor is set to its native resolution, then click Next.
    5. You'll be asked to select the text that you're comfortable reading > Next.
    6. Click Finish.

Feel free to post back should you need further assistance.

Perhaps your screen shot is deceptive, but to me the text looks just the same in the two examples, though the Word version is a bit easier to read than the white on black in VS.
