OneNote fail sync, Error Code: 0x80004005

Microsoft OneNote will not sync with my Microsoft 365 account, and it gives the following error code.

We're sorry, something went wrong during sync. We'll try again later. (Error code: 0x80004005)

Does anyone know the explanation for this error code?

    I can confirm, i have the same issue and all updates are installed.

    I cannot sync anything between my iPad and my Office365/2016 client. the error given is the same as above

    "We're sorry, something went wrong during sync. We'll try again later. (Error code: 0x80004005)"

    The article does not help. It is a generic code. I copied my OneNote address into a browser and determined the issue is with the service, and not isolate to OneNote 2016 on my Surface Book. Attempted a quick repair (just to see if this would work), but did not work either. I did perform some Windows updates Friday afternoon and I don't know if it is coincident, but now additional updates are failing to install. The last update was KB4022405. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but wanted to throw that out there.

    I am not replying for JoeGreenWA, but for myself, since I have the same error.

    1. Yes, I was able to log into my Microsoft 365 account, with the most updated version of my notebook.
    2. Yes
    3. Snycing the notebook from desktop (OneNote 2016) to server.

    Notes: All edits I make ARE synced, since I see them in real time on server. However, it is just that I keep getting the sync error anyways when I sync from desktop. Error code: 0x80004005

    For further isolation of your syncing concern, we would like to verify the following information:

    • Were you able to login to your OneNote.com successfully with your notebooks updated?
    • Have you tried removing your account and then signed back in?
    • Are you trying to sync the notebook from the desktop to the server or the other way around?
