Does SharePoint Designer 2013 work with Multi-factor authentication?  I'm having a problem with it - not sure if it's even supported?

thank you.

    Hi Simplysql,

When Multi-Factor Authentication and app passwords are enabled for a user, he should use the app password instead of the Office 365 password to login to a site in SharePoint Designer 2013.

Based on my test, if we still use the Office 365 password in SharePoint Designer 2013, we will get the following error.

Instead, we should use the app password we got when we set up Multi-factor Authentication.

If the app password is lost, please ask you administrator to disable and re-enable

    Multi-factor Authentication for your account.

If the above is not your scenario, please share more information about the situation.

    Regards,

    Jiaxing

Create below registry entry in the machine where designer is installed to enable modern Auth

    HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Identity\EnableADAL

    With value 1

    HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Identity\Version

    With value 1

Evidently it matters where you create the App Password.  When I used the initial password, generated via the Azure interface, it did not work with Sharepoint Designer.  But when I created a new one, through the Office 365 settings panel as described here: (in the "how you use Multi-factor authentication" table) https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/multi-factor-authentication/multi-factor-authentication-end-user-app-passwords  it worked.

I have the setting turned on - and it works with SharePoint.  However when I try to get in SPD, it asks for user name - I put that in, and then it asks for password,  I put that in - then it tries to authenticate - never shows the screen asking for phone number or pin, and says user not found.

    Hi Simplysql,

Yes. If you enable Multi-factor authentication in Office 365 portal, when you sign in SharePoint Designer 2013, it will ask you to verify your account via another authentication.
