Microsoft Office: "Upload Failed There is a problem with the Web Site's Security Certificate"

I am running Windows 10, with a Microsoft 365 subscription, using Microsoft office, specifically WORD.  I am saving all my documents to OneDrive.  Recently, everytime I try to manually save a Word Document i get the following message:

UPLOAD FAILED There is a problem with the Web site's security certificate.  Save to retry your upload.

I try to save again and same message appears.  I've tried resolving the issue to no avail.  Anyone have any suggestions to help?

Thank you.

    Hi James,

We need to determine the reason why you are getting the error message Upload Failed There is a problem with the Web Site's Security Certificate when saving documents in OneDrive. With that said, kindly answer the following questions:

    • Did you make any changes on the computer prior to this concern?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
    • Can you send us a screenshot of the error message that you are getting? Note: Please do not include any personal information.
    • Have you tried uploading your documents via https://onedrive.live.com/? If so, did you experience the same issue?

I have a variant of the problem.

Since the last update (today) the "Auto save" option in Word is greyed and disabled.

However, in my case, I have no "Upload Failed  ..." message when saving (and Word files are synched to OneDrive).

"Auto save" in Excel and PowerPoint is working.

I am having same issue - Word and Excel files cannot upload to OneDrive since latest Windows update.  Web site's security certificate mentioned.

Same happening on Dell laptop and  on my Asus tablet

Strangely my wife not having the issue on her desktop on the same network.

    What is going on??

I am having a similar problem that is happening in Excel.

I tried uploading the file to OneDrive manually and I got an error saying the file was already open on my system.  It was not, but I had about 13-15 other Excel files open at the time.  I closed them all and then was able to upload the file manually through the OneDrive web site successfully.

I noticed that the Upload Failed message drove me to the Microsoft Office Upload Center which was also sitting in my system tray.  I also noticed that I have a OneDrive app in my system tray.

With both system tray apps (OneDrive and Microsoft Office Upload Center) running, I got the same error message when I opened and attempted to save the file to my hard drive.

I tried Pausing synchronization for MS Office Upload Center by right clicking on it in the system tray, then choosing Pause for 2 hours.

I tried to open the Excel file again and this time it took a really long time to attempt the save, and while it was attempting to save, OneDrive tray icon had a synch icon on it and was attempting to synch the file.  Eventually it failed with the same error.

This time, I re-enabled MS Office Upload Center sync and paused OneDrive sync for 2 hours.  Now when I opened the Excel file it quickly auto saved whenever I updated a cell.

I have not tested this extensively, but it seems there is a conflict issue at the moment with OneDrive and MS Office Upload Center apps.

I have the same problem, with Word only (2016 version).

Other office products (Excel, ...) work well.

Moreover, the "Auto save" option in Word is greyed and disabled.

Finally, if I create a doc using the web version of Word, any content I add to the doc is not saved to OneDrive.

    Problems started yesterday.
