Hyphenation not working

I am using the new office 365 subscription model for mac and I am having problems trying to enable hyphenation for Word. The language of the document is finnish. If I click on "Hyphenation" I see that it is enabled and automatic, but for some reason it is not working for the document. Any idea how I can fix this? I have the same problem with every document.

    Hi,

Maybe that solve your issue by unchecking the option "Do not check spelling or grammar".

Just to confirm, not to be pedantic :-) but Language is not a property of a document, it's a property of the text in the document. Unlike some other features, the Hyphenation dialog provides no confirmation of which language has been applied to the text.

Have you confirmed that Finnish is actually applied by selecting the text then going to Tools> Language to confirm? IOW, with the insertion point in a particular spot (such as at the beginning of the text) a certain language may be applied, but that language may not be used anywhere else in the document.

Beyond that I'm afraid I can't help much... I know nothing of Finnish, which makes it particularly difficult to test. if you're convinced that it isn't working as it should, use the Smiley @ the right end of the Ribbon to submit your concern.

I'll report it too. Click on the smiling-face icon in the upper right corner of the Word window, choose Tell Us What Can Be Better and describe the steps to reproduce the bug.

I'm not sure if this feature is broken for Finnish, or if it merely lacks a support file. Automatic hyphenation does not appear to be working in 2016. Word 2011 is able to do it with no problem.

When I create an English or French document, I can force hyphenation by:

    1. Selecting all text in the language, then using Tools>Language to check that the correct language is actually applied.
    2. Choosing Tools>Hyphenation, then clicking on the Manual button. This forces the hyphenation routine to begin looking for possible words to hyphenate.

Unfortunately, when the language is set to Finnish and you click on the Manual button, Word reports Word is hyphenating another document. over and over, which is false. At the very least, it should display a more sensible error message if it unable to perform the hyphenation.

Thank you for your reply and clarification about the language setting. I did try it out. I selected all the text and went to Tools -> Language and selected Finnish but that didnt do anything. I also checked the hyphenation options and it is set to automatically hyphenate documents. Do I need to download some language packs or something separately?
