Merging 2 Word documents, but need different page numbering

Anonymous

I have my first document set with the header:

Name

Title

Date

Page number (spelled out, not digits)

Total of 4 pages.

My second document also has headers

Name

Enclosure title

Date

Page number (again text, not digits)

Total of 3 pages.

What I want to do is keep the page numbers completely separate, for example:

Page 1 no heading

Page 2-4 numbered as such

Page 5 no heading

Page 6 and 7 I want to start page numbering over with "2 & 3"

I have tried the section and page breaks, but I just can't do it.  And of course, it might just be that isn't isn't a possibility.

Thanks in advance!!!!

When you insert a section break (next page), you can (in either or both sections) enable "Different First Page," which allows you to leave the First Page Header blank. For the numbering, you need to use the Page Number Format dialog to "Restart at 1" in the second section. Access this via Header & Footer Tools | Design | Header & Footer | Page Number | Format Page Numbers...

    This where the problem is:

    Page 5 no heading

Page 6 and 7 I want to start page numbering over with "2 & 3"

Page 5 needs to be blank or skipped, like the first page.  It is almost like having two 'first pages'.

Pages 5 through 7 are not part of the letter exactly.  They are an attachment that is tailored to the individual.  I just wanted to make them all one Word document first.

I think my only choice is to keep the documents separate until I am ready to email the letters out and then combine them as a PDF.

    Thanks.

    Hi TheWIghosthunter,

Based on your description, you would like to use different page numbers in different parts of your document in Word. I would like to suggest you click Different First Page in the Options group on the Design tab to add different page numbering.  For more detailed information, you can refer to this article: Add different page numbers or number formats to different sections

    Regards,
