I recently started using 365 and now some of my files won't let me open them. The file shows as a PRA file. What is this and what can I open the file with safely. I've already destroyed 2 files.

    Hi Jennifer,

Have you change the related files' extension name back to normal? Can you open them now? Please let me know your recent progress.

    Thanks,

    Neo

    Hi Jennifer,

The file extension PRA is associated with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and CADRA by SofTech Inc. For your reference: File Extension PRA.

***Disclaimer:****Microsoft provides no assurances and/or warranties, implied or otherwise, and is not responsible for the information you receive from the third-party linked sites or any support related to technology.*

However, that’s not normal that your files become .pra files automatically. As a workaround, I suggest you make a backup of related files and then change their extension back to normal to see the outcome. You can change it by right click your file and select Rename then edit it.

Please have a try and share with me your result.

Besides, please share with me related info as below to let me have a better understanding about this issue:

    1. The version number of your OS(Win+R>type CMD>OK) and Office(File>Account>Product Information).
    2. Which kind of files were influenced?(E.g. .docx/.xlsx/.pptx?)
    3. Does this issue happen to new created files?
    4. What have you changed before this issue happens?(E.g. UpdateOS/Office, Install application, Download some file)

    Thanks,

    Neo

I am not sure about the files. At this point I can't even find them anymore because I've changed their properties. I know the last time I tried to open it the file would not open. I wanted to see if I could open them on another computer but again after changing the property I can't find it. I'm sure I'll find it when I go to use it and can't open it. This sucks!!! just remembered, I do have a server backup and I'll check there.

I'm not uninstalling and reinstalling. I'm not going to potentially lose more files. I've got a business to run and don't have time for these issues. I depend on your product, that I pay for, to work properly.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

    Hi Jennifer,

I’d like to confirm whether these PRA files are come from Office documents. If so, that issue may be caused by the broken of Office applications. Please uninstall and reinstall your Office.

If this issue still exists after reinstalling, please let me know the detailed steps about how you install your Office.

    Thanks,

    Neo

Thank you for replying. Your advice did not work. I changed the file to open with Adobe and it still won’t open.

I have 10 pcs and they are all Windows 10.

Prior to changing to 365 I had Office 2010. Everything worked fine. I noticed one pc, after the change to 365, would not open excel files so I had to change the property. They work fine now. Another PC would not open Word, I changed the property and again, it works fine now. But I don’t know what PRA is? Everything I’ve tried has damaged the file.
