Microsoft Works Suite 2004 Update to Works 8.5?

I happened to be browsing the 'net, casually, as always, when I stumbled across this article here.

It talks about a free upgrade to Microsoft Works 8.5 due to a security flaw in the older versions.

Now, this article is from 2005, and it's on a public forum, so take this with a grain of salt.

Anyways, I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade my OEM copy of Microsoft Works Suite 2004 to any newer version, as the link on the post at the website redirects to the Microsoft home page.

I kinda just want to look into this, too, and if anyone could provide any more info on this topic and such, I'd really appreciate it.

Sincerely, FullWeebTV

Works was discontinued in 2009. The upgrade is no longer available.

In fact I would suggest that you start converting your Works files to Office compatible files before it is too late. When your current machine dies you won't have an easy way of converting them...especially the database files. Even if you don't want to buy and run Office then you can get the freebie LibreOffice and it is compatible with Office files.

I understand why you like Works. I started with 3.0 on a DOS machine and have used 4.5a since it was introduced. In fact it was so good that most users found there was really no need for Office. As a result MSFT started dummying it down, stripping functionality out of each new version to force users to move to Office. I have reluctantly converted most of my important Works files to Office compatible file formats and have a backup WinXP machine with Works installed. Even if you can find a copy of Works, installing it on Win10 machines is difficult if not impossible. The hand writing is on the wall...start transitioning now if you value the content in your Works files.
