Microsoft Office Activation Not Showing as Associated to my Microsoft Account

Hello Microsoft Community,

I have an issue and a few questions.

Issue:

A few months back I purchased a copy of Office 2016 Home & Student. I activated it through setup.office.com, using my Microsoft account, with no problems. All my office applications work great and act normally. Recently, I was looking into cleaning up my system by backing up all my files to do a clean install of Windows on my computer. One thing I wanted to look into while doing this was to make sure I did everything correctly to ensure my Office 2016 license remained valid. But when I log in to My Office and go to my My account I see this: "Hmm... You've signed in with an account that isn't associated with any Office products."

Questions:

Any idea why my Office 2016 activation does not show up on my account after I used that account to activate it originally?

Is there a way to get my activation/product key associated with my account? (Trying activate again using my product key causes an error when I try it.)

What is the best course of action, if I am going to do a clean install of Windows, to ensure that my Office license stays valid?

Thanks for the help!

So when I go to setup.office.com it first asks me to sign in. After that I can see the following:

When I click on the highlighted link it takes me to the page below, which shows me my associated Office Home and Student 2016 Product Key. But as you can also see, MyOffice still does not recognize that I have any product keys associated to my account... and now, after using the troubleshooter, none of my office programs will work, saying I have no office products associated to my account...

I am at a loss as to what to do now...

Thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately, it does not seem like the troubleshooter was able to help. I ended up with the error in the troubleshooter: "Office hasn't been activated yet."

Not sure I fully understand the troubleshooter... following the prompts brings up a sign in page that puts in a loop of saying there are not office products associated with this account, and all it gives me is a button that says "Try Again." Which brings me back to a screen saying asking if I want to change accounts, and back to the "Try Again" screen.

This is the error I get when trying to go through the activation process with the product key again:

"Sorry, we can't find this product key in our database.

If your product key is for Office 2010, Office 2007, or Office for Mac 2011, you can redeem your product key and download Office here.

If your product key is for Office 365 for Business, redeem it here.

    Error code: TOKEN_NOT_FOUND

    Correlation ID: c4989789-5792-417d-83c4-d6c169e5ac69"

Not sure what to do from here.

Even after running through the download process again from the Office/MyAccount page show previously, MyOffice still says I have no products associated to my account, and I now get this window whenever I try to use any office programs on my computer.

    Hi,

It is possible that you missed a step when you activated Office 2016 previously that’s why it is not showing that it is linked to your Microsoft account. If you still have your product key, follow these steps:

    1. Go to office.com/setup.
    2. Sign in using your Microsoft account.
    3. Enter your product key without hyphen and follow the prompts.

If you’re getting an error trying to activate Office 2016, download and run the Activation Troubleshooter. Follow the steps below.

    If you’re using Edge:

    1. Select Save.
    2. Select Open.
    3. Select Next and follow the prompts.

    If you’re using Internet Explorer:

    1. Select Open. If the file doesn’t open right away, select Save and Open Folder.
    2. Double-click the file to run the tool.
    3. Select Next and follow the prompts.

    If you’re using Chrome:

    1. Select Show in folder.
    2. Double-click the file to run the tool.
    3. Select Next and follow the prompts.

    If you’re using Firefox:

    1. Select Save File and hit OK.
    2. Select Show all downloads from the upper-right corner of the browser window.
    3. Select Downloads > officeact.diagcab.
    4. Select the folder icon.
    5. Double-click the officeact.diagcab.
    6. Click Next and follow the prompts.

Before performing a clean install, make sure that you have already resolved the activation error you’re experiencing with Office 2016. Keep a copy of your Windows and Office product key for future use. It is also recommended to back up your files to avoid data loss. Check the links below:
