Hello, im having trouble with text boxes that keep disappearing on me each time I try to move any of them in a Word document. Ive been using Pages for a while so im still new to using Word. It is the newest version and it is for a mac. I have tried looking online and seeing people who have had similar problems but keep running into dead ends. I have made sure the 'Allow overlap' option is checked off in advanced layout and have tried messing with bringing the boxes forward, sending backwards, ect. Any idea what im missing here? Thanks!

Do you have borders turned on for the text boxes? That makes it easier to locate them. Or put a colored fill in the text box, again to make it easier to find.

Then after you finish editing you can turn the borders or fill Off.

All im doing is dragging the text box or resizing it and it causes the box to disappear. To be more specific I dont think its disappearing as much as it just goes invisible.

Right now im using them to make a resume. So for each section I create its own text box (Ex. one box will be for Experience and another for Education). I find it easier when dealing with bullets and with trying to customize certain parts of the resume when moving stuff around.

Ill mess around with the table idea, hopefully that will give me what I need. Thanks.

Just to double-check, please go to the Word menu and choose About Word. The latest version is 15.41. If you don't have that version, please follow these instructions:

Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection before checking for updates. Install Mac OS X updates followed by Office updates.

Install Mac OS X updates first:

To get Mac OS updates, go to the App store on your dock, and then click the Updates button to reveal available updates.

    Then Install Office Updates

    To get the update:

    1. Open any Office application
    2. Go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates
    3. Let AutoUpdate check for and install updates
    4. Restart your Mac

That said, I don't think updating will solve this particular issue. Right click on the border of your text box and choose a wrapping option other than In Line With Text. Try using Square, for example. That should make it easier for you to place the text box where you want it.

Even when I tried borders it still would disappear once I dragged the text box. I ended up making a new document and havent had the same issue. So I mustve changed something but I have no idea what. Ill keep going with this for now and hopefully I wont run into this issue again. Thanks.

What do you mean the text box keeps disappearing? What are you doing when it disappears?

Just curious, why do you want to use text boxes? What do use them to do that is "special", more than just typing in the document? Maybe we can suggest alternatives that are less "volatile".

The obvious alternative it a table, even a 1 cell x 1 row table. While you can't drag and drop it to posistion it you can define orientation on line as centered or right, or the default left, with a specified indent from the left margin.
