Auto Deleting Deleted Emails After A Certain Time Frame

For Outlook on Office 365, I would like to know how to set up to automatically delete emails in my deleted folder after a certain age of them. I would like to keep deleted emails for 18 months, then as soon as they go past this time frame, they are automatically deleted. I tried right clicking on Deleted Items and then Properties, then AutoArchive and changing the "clean out items older than 18 months" to "permanently delete old items" but it doesn't seem to work.

I look forward to knowing how to do this, thanks!

    Hi Mrsc328,

Based on your description, if you want to delete the deleted items from Deleted Items folder when this items older than 18 months, you can create retention tag and assign retention policy to the Deleted Items folder. Note: it will take effect in 7 days when you assign policy.

See detailed step for your need: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd297955(v=exchg.160).aspx

Attention: if you want to setup retention tag or retention policy, you should have Office 365 account (admin permission)

    Thanks,

    Richard

Not at this time. I took Richard's feedback and passed the link onto my admin team for assistance. I'm awaiting their response. I will reach back out with any further needs or questions.

    Thanks for the follow up.
