Word - Font changes to Cambria after Autocorrect or paste

Hello,

I am using Office 365 on a Surface Pro. I think what I have is the desktop version of Word 2016.

I have created several custom autocorrect entries so that when I type a particular key combination it will be autocorrected to a musical symbol. The font for the musical symbol is called ScaleDegrees Times.

The autocorrect is working just fine; I type the key combination, hit the space bar, and there is my symbol. The problem is that when I type the next characters they are not in my default Times New Roman font. The font has changed to Cambria.

The same key combinations and fonts work perfectly in Office for Mac.

I appreciate any suggestions. I also appreciate any explanation, even someone knows why this happens but not how to make it stop happening.

Thanks.

I've had a similar issue in my Word for Mac (Version 15.23), and none of the above fixes have worked for me.

What happens (in every single document) is that after Word autoformats something (-- into an m-dash, or changing a straight quotation mark into a curved one), it changes the font into Helvetica (from, say, Times New Roman).

This is particularly vexing after I copy-and-paste. If the copied text has something that Word autoformats, it then changes some of the following copied text to Helvetica-- AND THEN that font cannot be changed (e.g., if I select the Helvetica text, and try to use the font drop-down menu to change it to Times New Roman, it will stay in Helvetica. The only way I've been able to change the font at this point is to use the Format Painter tool-- but that's an irritating work-around).

I do not have any add-ins, and my default font is something else entirely (Calibri), so I'm not sure where to go from here.

    Hello Leigh,

Did you turn off the add-ins as mentioned in the link and check?

If not, Please follow the instructions given in the below link to turn off add-ins and check if it helps.

If the issue still persists, Open a document for which the default font is set to Times New Roman and when you start typing if you find the font change to some other style, you can press Ctrl + Spacebar to change the font back to default font(Times New Roman).

You may also refer to the below link which discusses about a similar issue and check if it helps.

Hope the information helps. Do reply if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.

The problem persists in all documents, and the default font for all documents is set to Times New Roman. I checked the permissions settings as recommended in your link and they are set correctly.

If, after the font change has happened, I click "Normal" in the Styles gallery the font will go back to Times New Roman, but I would prefer just to be able to go on typing, as I do on my Mac, without having always to remember to change the style.

I don't see a way to attach a sample document to this post or I would. I could put one on Dropbox or OneDrive if that would help.

    Thanks again,

    Leigh
