Excel 365 doesn't open with blank workbook

On Windows 7 and Office 365, my Excel will not open with a temporary blank workbook (usually book1.xlsx)

IS there a setting to make this work like it did before the 365 upgrade?

    Hi Mooseman316,

According to your description, I think you want to open with the blank workbook and don’t show the start screen.

So please follow the steps below:

    1. Open Your Excel 2016.
    2. Click File > click Options > choose General tab in the Options dialog box > do not tick Show the Start screen when this application starts > click OK.

    Regards,

    Rosen

Since this is a work computer, the IT dept will need to do the uninstalling and re-installation.

Why are you focusing on the start screen?  I would like Excel to open with a blank workbook, (Book1), when opened from it's shortcut.  When I open an Excel file (like I_already_saved_thisFile.xlsx), that it doesn't open another window with no open workbook in it.   Maybe I don't understand how the start screen affects Excel opening with a unsaved empty workbook, like it has done for years.

I do not have the Show the Start screen when this application starts checked.
