An ordinary Find/Replace done from the document body will update the body, headers and footers.

If you want to process footers only, and the Sections use footers that are not linked and/or you're using a 'different first page' page setup and/or a 'different odd and even' page setup, you will have to process each of these separately. That process could be automated with a macro.

If the variable information is found somewhere in the text, be aware that using a StyleRef field to pick up that information might still save you from having to have different footers.

If you want all the footers to be the same, why don't you just create the first one the way you want it and then enable Link to Previous in all the rest?

I don't want them all to be the same.  However, they share some common information.  Some of that, I want to change -- without opening up each footer...  Thanks

What are the specific steps you have tried so far?

    Running a Find & Replace?

    Editing the footer directly?

    Something else?

It is a long document with multiple footers containing different, though overlapping information.  A simple search and replace does not seem to work on footers.  and within a footer, a search and replace only works on one footer...  Some of the online help wants to construct and use a macro, which I don't want to hassle with - since i know nothing about macros, and don't want to learn.  This should be easy.  I tried the solution on this site: https://word.uservoice.com/forums/304924-word-for-windows-desktop-application/suggestions/8962543-find-replace-including-headers-and-footers, namely "Find-rReplace works for headers and footers too if you activate enable click and type (File - Optioins - Advanced Options - Editing Options - Enable click and type). "  That did not work.  Nothing happened.
