Hi,

My hard disk broke down and I had it replaced.

When reinstalling Office 2016, the product key is no longer valid as it was "in use".

Now what?

thanks.

Jaime

Have you been able to activate

    If no try

    Try this

Step 1: Open Command Prompt on PC

Open a Command Prompt window, and then take one of the following actions:

    • If you installed the 64-bit version of Office 2016, move to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16

    • If you installed the 32-bit version of Office 2016, move to the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16

Step 2: Display the Current License(s)

Type the following command to display the license status. Note the last five characters of any and all license keys that display in the output:

    cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

    Step 3: Remove the License(s)

Now run the following command as many times as needed to remove all of the license keys you noted from the previous step.

cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey:<last five characters of product key>

    Step 4: Restart the Computer

Once the remove commands are successful, close the command prompt and restart the PC.

Step 5: Reactivate MS Office 2016 with New Account

    Hi Jaime,

Was Office attached to your Microsoft Account?

If so, go to http://www.office.com and if you're not already signed in, select Sign in

    Select Install Office - Install

From there you can deactivate the old installation, which should allow you to activate the current installation . . .

    Hi,

ATM, it appears that a telephone activation is the only means possible.

Will do that and post result.

First Off: Local Phone does not work. Will try the international toll-free numbers.

    Hello,

    Lets try this activation troubleshooter:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Unlice...

If does not works try the below options:

    Resetting Office activation

Open Command Prompt and navigate to the following folder

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15 Or Office16

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15 Or Office16

    Run cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

Observe the results and uninstall each product key

cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey:<last 5 chars of product key shown in dstatus>

After the above actions please do the following:

    Uninstall Office Complete

    Install Office:

    Hi Dave,

when I go through setup.office.com and login,

I would see that THAT product key is there.

I proceeded to install (step #2).

After downloaded/installation it appears all is done.

When I run excel/word, it says Activation Required.

When I tried to activate, it says product key is not valid.

    Jaime
