"Error publishing public key TXT record" When attempting to create a DKIM signing config for Domain.

Something similar happened a few months ago: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice\_o365admin-mso\_exchon-mso\_o365b/exchange-online-dkim-setup-error-from-new/63cf11c4-2931-44c9-add8-66d616b4c28b

It's happening to me right now.

What happened:

  1. Added domain to Office 365.
  2. Connected via PS and ran "New-DkimSigningConfig -DomainName example.com -Enabled $true"
  3. Forgot to add cnames so I add them to my Cloudflare DNS, check again. (Note: I already successfully did this for a few domains so I know the correct DNS entries)
  4. It wouldn't detect the CNAMEs at first so I removed them and added them again, it suddenly works. (The required CNAMEs were copied from the error message so no typos)
  5. Now I start getting the "Error publishing public key TXT record. Config was not created. Please try again." error.
  6. Removed the domain from 365 and added it again, interestingly it was never removed from Exchange's Web dkim settings menu, in PS it was on the other hand never visible.

EDIT: It actually gets removed after a few minutes, error still persists after adding it again after this.

  1. That's where I am now, emails work, dkim is just broken. Any ideas? My other domains work without any issues.

Hi All,

According to my test, the issue is resolved now. Please check it in the Exchange Admin Center and Powershwll on your side and see if it has been fixed now.

Please feel free to contact us if there is any updates.

Regards,

Rick

That could be because the issue seems to be gone again, as I was just able to enable DKIM message signing as well. The exact same command errored out during the last few days though...

Anyway, my problem is now solved; thanks a lot for your reply!

    Regards,

    Sebastian

    Hi Rick!

The issue seems to have returned, or at least I'm getting the "Error publishing public key TXT record. Config was not created. Please try again." again when trying to enable DKIM message signing for a domain.

Is this the same issue again or is something else wrong?

    @Microsoft

With so many people having this issue it might be time to officially declare this an incident?
