For the last two months or so, I've been prompted I stopped counting how many times for OfficeUpdater updates... (mac OS version, Office 365 subscription). Not talking about programs updates, but just the f... installer !!

Is there a scam running on the web ? Is this a virus ? What the hell is this ? (I *did* those installs maybe 3-4 times, but c'mon : is this the reality that almost every week there is such an Updater update ??

    Hi

General release updates are monthly, usually the second week of the month.

Insider Slow updates are monthly, generally the first week of the month.

Insider Fast updates are at usually weekly, sometimes more often, occasionally less often.

If AutoUpdate is trying to install updates more often than you expect, one of two situations is likely on your Mac.

    1. You have multiple copies of one or more Office apps on your Mac. Use Spotlight to find the duplication and delete the oldest version. AutoUpdate is unable to update multiple copies of an app on your Mac, but it does see them and attempts to update, which fails, and then the process repeats.
    2. You manually update some apps but not all of them. AutoUpdate sees apps that need updates, but can't update them because they are different versions from the rest of the suite. You can manually install updates, but then turn AutoUpdate to manual so it doesn't drive you crazy as it tries to install updates but fails because it doesn't find consistent versions throughout the suite.

Thanks Jim. I should not 'dabble' with Mac questions.

The problem is that if I click on ''install'', I see nothing happening...   And must say that this does not happen when I launch an Office program, it happens when I log on a session...  And this is true on 3 different Macs, different versions of macOS.

No, Office does not update 3 or 4 times a week.  Have you checked to see what updates are being installed.  It may be your Office is trying to install the same updates.  Not sure with a Mac but you could run whatever update trouble shooter there is for a Mac, or you could try repairing your Office.
