I recently switched to a new PC that is running Windows 10 and Office 2016. I am accessing Excel Workbooks stored on O365 SharePoint and am constantly getting the following error when I save an Excel workbook to SharePoint:

I am the only one editing the workbook, and in the file history in the SharePoint Library actually shows that I edited it... Even though the save failed.

What can be done to avoid this error and restore my confidence in that my changes are been saved properly?

    Brandon,

    On my system I...

    • Click on the OneDrive icon in the tool tray on the bottom right of my screen
    • Click the ellipsis and select settings
    • Select the Office tab
    • Uncheck the checkbox next to "Use Office 2016 to sync Office files that I open"
    • Click OK

    I hope that helps!

    HI Allison,

Please try deleting cache files in Upload center. To do this, right click onStartmenu >Search > search and Open Office 2016 Upload center > click Settings > Delete cached files, click Ok, see Delete your Office Document Cache for more information.

Also, try opening Word application, click File> Account, under User Information, click Sign out from all the user account and then sign in again using work account, check if Office application works as expected.

If the issue persists, please provide the following information:

    1. Provide the screenshot of Office 2016 Product Information. To get this screenshot, open Excel/Word 2016 on your system, click File>Account, capture the screenshot of all the information mentioned under Product Information.
    2. Do you get the error with all the Office files or specific ones?
    3. How do you save the file to OneDrive?
    4. WhichOneDrive sync client are you using? To confirm, hover over the OneDrive sync client on the system tray, when you see a pop up box with the name, take a screenshot and send it to us.

Additionally, right-click the blue OneDrive - <your company> cloud icon in your taskbar notification area, and then select Settings, select the Office tab, clear the Use Office 2016 to sync files that I have opencheck box, see if this fix the problem.

    Thanks,

    Neha

Huge shout out to Jeremy Esposito from Microsoft as he was able to diagnose and articulate the issue that I was experiencing after quite a while troubleshooting and fumbling.

Cause: Earlier version of Office 2016(MSO)/Excel not compatible with latest version of OneDrive sync file collaboration feature.

Resolution: Resolved the problem by turning off the OneDrive sync file collaboration feature.

    Hey Brad,

Yea it is still driving me nuts too. I actually have an open case with support and the person I am working with is also working with the SharePoint team... So no resolution yet, but we're still working on it. I'll post something here when we figure something out.

    Hey Alden,

I had provided some additional details, and hadn't heard anything back yet. I'm still experiencing the issue.

    Thanks!

    Allison,

Have you been able to find any resolution to this issue? I have several users here in my company that are having this and it is driving me mad. I noticed that this has been idle for a while.

    Thanks,

    Brad
