Office 2016 Pro Incorrect Version Displayed After Installation.

I just installed a newly purchased Office 2016 Pro+ on a newly purchased PC. Office.

Download, installation and activation were normal without any issue.

However, on the first run of any Office apps after installation, the opening screen would display Starting.... Word, Excel or Outlook normally.

On subsequent run of any Office apps, after the first run, the opening screen display would change toStarting.... Word 365, Excel 365 or Outlook 365 instead.

My new PC came with a trial version of Office 365 which I uninstalled completely before I install my full Office 2016 Pro.

I tried uninstall and reinstall a few times, and it was the same. When uninstalled I tried Control Panel > Program Uninstall as well as the Microsoft Uninstall Tool and both did not help.

I was a bit puzzled with my newly installed Office Pro's  behavior - first run opening screen showing normal display and subsequent run showing Office 365 display.

Can any good soul please advise if they came across this issue, the cause and how to fix it.

Many thanks.

Look on the C: drive for office files installation

Program files or Program file <x86>\Microsoft office\office16 there needs to be a files with ospp extension

Copy that path and pasted it in CMD, it should be open as administrator

So now you can get status of the key with cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

To remove the 5 disigt key use

    cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey:WRYPT (example)

After remove all keys from there run again the status to make sure theres no more key

    Hello,

    Lets try this activation troubleshooter:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Unlice...

If does not works try the below options:

    Resetting Office activation

Open Command Prompt and navigate to the following folder

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15 Or Office16

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15 Or Office16

    Run cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

Observe the results and uninstall each product key

cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey:<last 5 chars of product key shown in dstatus>

After the above actions please do the following:

    Uninstall Office Complete

Hi Chang, this is widely reported, it is just a re-branding of Office Products, an Office update has caused this . . .

You are still running your full version of Office 2016 Pro, it is just the splash screen that has changed with this update - you have nothing to worry about !
