Office 365: Switch Installation 32 bit to 64 bit

Regarding Office 2019 two questions:

  1. I have a Office 365 subscription and a local installation. This version is updated frequently. Are there all updates included which ship with Office 2019, will there be an update with availability of Office 2019 for consumer or is a new installation necessary?
  2. MS now recommends 64 bit version. I have a 32 bit version installed. How can I switch to the 64 bit version? Deinstallation 32 bit and new installation with 64 sources? How is migration for outlook-files working?

Kind regards

Wolfgang

    1. Office 365 will update to 2019 when released, automatically, allthough it might take a short time for all users to be updated.
    2. As far as I was aware the MS recommendation was still for 32bit, 64bit is only required when using +2gb excel workbooks.

You have to uninstall 32bit Office to then install 64bit office, and if you have any other Office 32bit components they would also have to be uninstalled

Office 365 already has all the features of Office 2019 already. Office 2019 will get a set of features of Office 365 up to a certain point.

To switch to the 64 bit version of Office, you will first need to uninstall Office 365 32 bit and any associated Office 32 bit components - since you might run in to errors.

Once you have done that, proceed to reinstall Office again, but this time, choose the 64 bit installer.

Step 1 - Sign in to download Office

Go to http://www.office.com and if you're not already signed in, select Sign in.

Sign in with the account you associated with this version of Office. This account can be a Microsoft account, or work or school account.

On the Office home page, do the following depending on your version of Office.

If you signed in with a Microsoft account, from the Office home page select Install Office > Install. (Office 365 subscribers should select Install again).

This begins the download of Office. Follow the prompts on your screen to complete the install.

Office 2019 components will be released to Office 365 subscribers automatically through the regular updates.

Microsoft, AFAIK, still recommends the 32-bit version of Office for most users, including those with 64-bit computers and operating systems.
