Microsoft is holding my computer hostage and I can't get them to let it go.

After trying the free trial Office 365 for about a week or so, I wrote in their review comments that I didn't like the new Outlook mail because it was too complicated and busy with clutter and I wanted my old office back; but, I never got a response from them. I discontinued the trial but could not delete it entirely from my computer and when the trial period was over it began to corrupt my old files I had created before I started the trial. It prevented me from altering or printing them and also the files I created during the trial.  It also damaged the communication between my computer and my wireless printer. I managed to get to talk to a technician and she worked to try and fix it but had to call for a senior technician. He worked on it for hours even deleting and reinstalling my Windows and the factory Office 2007 and I lost my upgrades and can't get them back. Finally he had to delete the app for my printer and download it again from the printer website. His shift ended before the printer finished downloading and he left off working on my computer with arranging to return to finish the next day after 12pm after my doctor's appointment. He called me back a couple of times before that time when I was being examined by my doctor so I couldn't answer my phone. He called again after 12 noon and I asked if he could please call me around 2pm because I had to go for lab work and x-rays and he agreed. He must have been busy with another client because he never called me back. I've been trying to get another session with a technician because the other technician left my computer with his remote access still on my computer sense Thursday and today is Tuesday. I don't know how to take it off and it has been impossible to get any assistance from the virtual help and when I finally got access to talk to a live person we got disconnected and he never called me back. I have no way to get in touch with that same technician and my frustration is causing me to become more ill because of the stress. Does anyone know how I can stop Microsoft from holding my computer hostage? I am left venerable and with a damaged computer and lost programs just because I tried a “so called” free trial and didn't opt to buy the product. How free was that?

    It may not make a hole lot of sense to you, possible because you may have a lot of experience with Microsoft and perhaps you have training or education with Microsoft technology. However I did ask for help because in fact, Office 365 did corrupt my files and the Microsoft technicians did find that to be the case and worked on my computer and left the remote access on my computer leaving it vulnerable.  I did ask for help not damning remarks because of my lack of Microsoft literacy.  Why would you do that? You don't know me and you don't have personal knowledge of my computer situation. If you can't help me why would you try and discredit me. Do you work for Microsoft or have a vested interest in the Office 365. If the product is new how do you know that there is nothing in the product that would corrupt files? Aren't you aware that people find flaws and glitches in new products all the time. As I said, I asked for legitimate assistance, not degrading remarks. I'm not a computer technician and I don't know how to rectify the problem because I did try to uninstall the trial but it didn't remove everything and I kept getting message to purchase the product when I pulled up a document. I may not be Microsoft literate but I'm not stupid and I do know how to read but Microsoft makes the process very difficult for the untrained to work through. That's why they have the virtual and technical help in the first place. If you don't want or can't help me, that's fine but why would try to make comments that might discourage others from helping me if they can. That is not a nice way to make yourself look smart by trying to make me look stupid. I need help, not harm.

    As I said before, I'm not a technician and I didn't make the decision to uninstall and reinstall Windows or anything else. The Microsoft technician had control of my computer and did what he deemed necessary to fix my computer. I thank you for the useful information you supplied me with but if I could only view the files I had previously created, I don't know what else to call it except corrupted. My files and printer were working just fine before I downloaded the 5 year old trial Office 365. If you knew that the Office 365 trial prevented access to previously created files and that it was to be excepted, it would have been more appropriate to mention that in your first response when I asked for help. But why would I have excepted it, it was not stated. anywhere I read, in the process of excepting the trial offer that if it was not purchased, I would not have total access to my previously created files. In fact in the frequently asked questions, others asked if they would have access to their documents and the answer was yes. There was no mention that one would have to make a new purchase anyway if they chose not to purchase the trial product. As far as compatibility, NOW, it seems to me that the free trial was a ploy to make people like me purchase software from Microsoft weather I wanted to or not: sense updates are no longer available for Office 2007 and I can't retrieve my previous updates. Maybe some of their technicians don't know that yet either. Or maybe they do. How did you know to expect it?  In the meantime, they still have remote access to my computer since Thursday. Was that also to be expected? With your computer tech knowledge, you chose to ignored that fact and sarcastically down rate me for saying what I do know to be true, like I should just suck it up and pay Microsoft to fix what they broke.  My complaint is real and warranted, whether you agree or not. And again, I posted to ask for help, not harm.

    so whatever other contrary remarks you have for me, you will have the last say because I will not respond. The stress of my situation is doing more harm than I can bare with your harmful words.

    Despite your assertions to the contrary, Office 365 (which has been around for 5 years, now) doesn't go about corrupting user files. Whatever else was going on, there would be no need to reinstall Windows (which would immediately make your PC inaccessible to the technician), though Office 2007 would have to be reinstalled. Naturally, once Office 2007 is reinstalled, you would then have to go through the process of reinstalling all the updates.

    As for your complaint that "it prevented me from altering or printing them and also the files I created during the trial", that is to be expected. The files aren't corrupt; the expired trial, though, will only let you view them. The edit or print them, you would need to reinstall a compatible version of Office, for example.

    And, before you start throwing more disparaging remarks around, I have never worked for, or owned shares in, Microsoft. AFAIK, the same applies to Palcouk.

    Your post doesnt make a whole lot of sense;

    Nothing in any Office 365 version will corrupt any files

    Installing an Office 365 trial version has no impact on Office 2007 or any earlier version of Office, it is a completely seperate installation.

    If you didnt like the 365 trial you simply uninstall it using the uninstall procedure in your unknown version of Windows.

    Its unlikely MS support would have made any attempt to re-install Office 2007 as it went out of support in Oct 2017
