Using Office 365, Windows 10; How to use 'Open With' to open .dbf files with Excel

Hi.

Two issues:

  1. I am trying to open .dbf files with Excel. But when I use 'open with', Excel does not come up as an option. So, I  click 'more apps' (no joy), then I "look for another app on this computer". But where in Program Files (or Program Files (x86)) do I find Excel?
  2. Why do my .dbf files tell me that they are Adobe Acrobat Documents (with the .pdf symbol), when the extension is .dbf.

Thanks!,

    Hi Zebbez,

Dave had given some suggestions; I would like to summarize mine:

    1.      You can also try to open the .dbf file in Excel by dragging the .dbf files.

             a.      Open the new excel page.

             b.      Locate the .dbf file.

             c.       Drag the .dbf file and place it in the Excel page

    2.      You can also try to associate the file type to Excel app as mentioned above.

    Regards,

    Chitrahaas

Hi Zebbez, setting file associations in Windows 10 at the moment is a mess . . .

    Open Excel

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)

Find Excel on the Processes Tab, right click that and choose Open File Location

Note down the location of the Excel executable

    Close Task Manager

Right click a file with that extension, choose 'Open With' - Choose Another App

Important - Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open dbf . . .'

Scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Scroll down and click 'Look for another app on this PC', then navigate to the folder location you noted earlier and choose Excel.exe

Start Excel > CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to start Task Manager > Right click on Excel in Task Manager > Open File Location > This is the folder you need to navigate to when you want to select Excel to associate .dbf file

In my computer this path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16

    Hi.

Generally the .dbf files are opened with the Microsoft Access application of Office, but you can also import it from Microsoft Excel.
