Reverting Changes in Word Online

Say I'm editing a document in Word 2016 for the PC. After making lots of changes I decide it was all a big mistake, and my original document was just fine as it was. All I have to do is exit the document without saving changes, and the document will remain as it originally was.

The situation is different for Word Online, because all my edits are saved in real time. How do I revert my document back to the way it was at the beginning of a session?

You will have to read through each of the older versions to find out which contains the text that you want to retrieve, yes.

In OneDrive, look at the Version History. You should be able to revert to an older version of your file using that feature.

Thanks. That means I have to keep track of what time I started editing, to know what version to restore. Is that correct?
