1 Year Free Subscription (Microsoft Office) with new Laptop - Missing?

Hello,

I just bought a new Huawei Matebook X Pro with Windows 10 a couple weeks ago. When I first turned on my laptop, Microsoft Office prompted me to notify me that I received a 1-Year free subscription to Microsoft Office with the purchase of the laptop. I should have immediately hit "Activate Now" but I just closed the window, deciding to come back later.

Today, I wanted to activate it with my free year. When I tried to open Word, Microsoft prompted me to log into my (only) Microsoft account. I did so, but the only option I have to activate my software is to pay $69.99 a year, with the first month free if I enroll in automatic yearly deductions. I cannot find how to get my original offer of a free year, even though it's only been two weeks since I last saw it.

Can someone please help?

That's pretty funny-- It's almost exactly what happened. I talked to MS who said "You need to contact the retailer." So I contacted NewEgg and told them my issue after being #114 in the waitlist and waiting over an hour. They said "Contact Huawei, good luck." And Huawei just sent me this email:

We widely appreciate your preference and we regret the inconvenience this issue is causing you. We will be happy to assist you with this matter.

From the start screen, locate and click on the office tile.

    1. Click Activate after Office 365 is verified on your system.
    2. Enter you Microsoft account when prompted.
    3. Click on sign in.
    4. Verify your country and language, then click continue.
    5. Click Install from the my account page.
    6. After office installs, click next to continue.
    7. Click next.
    8. Select your office background, then click next.
    9. Click take a look or no, thanks.
    10. Click all done! You will now see office applications in the apps list and they can be pinned to start.

Those steps don't really do anything. Step #5 is to "install from the my account page." Except you can't install anything without paying for it first....

It may just be a case of finding the right tile to click in the Start menu or desktop.  The product key is some how ("magically") embedded in the tile.

This page lists several ways that you can get Office. This includes a couple of Offers where you get a “Free” one year subscription included with the computer

    ***************************

MS support is not likely to be willing to help you. The "free" subscription is provided by the computer maker (or maybe store).

You will have to contact computer maker for help resolving this problem.

Sorry to be right. This is one of those vicious "not my problem" finger pointing circles.  But, ultimately if they offered you a free copy of Office 365 Personal, then resolving your mistake when trying to activate the free offer lies with Huawei.

First, confirm if your purchase included a "free" full copy of Office.  Look on your invoice and look at that NewEgg listing for the computer.  Some say something like you get "1 year free of Office 365 Personal", some say you get a "free trial of Office 365".

Does your email from Huawei include something like a "trouble ticket number", or some other unique identifier for your original contact with them.

If you are supposed to have 365 Personal, try Huawei again. Ask to speak to a supervisor. Front line support people rarely have the authority to fix this sort of problem ("giving away" another product key for Office).

Be prepared to spend a lot more time on the phone.

If you have a lost free offer, the simplest, brute force fix would be to return the computer for exchange, or refund and buy it new machine...

Thanks-- Besides the "Microsoft Office" icon/tile/option I can click on (after opening the start menu and navigating down to "M"), what other tiles could there be?
