Degree symbol in PowerPoint occupies 2 spaces (PC, Win10)

When I insert the degree symbol in a temperature there is an extra space after the symbol, so that the C or F label can't be positioning directly next to the temperature.

For example:

In Word it works fine:

~temperature 20°C (Word sample)

notice there is no gap between the degree symbol and the C.

Any help is appreciated!

This spacing will depend on exactly which font you chose for this. Please try selecting the text and changing to another font to see if it fixes this issue. If you must use a particular font, please post the details of the font you are using.

I'm not able to reproduce this effect here. I've used the same symbol as shown in Neo Wu's reply.

    As a workaround, you can:

    1. Select the degree character
    2. Open the  Home>Font dialog.
    3. Select the Character Spacing tab.
    4. Change the Spacing: dropdown to Condensed and set By: to about 8.
    5. Click on OK and see how the spacing looks.  Experiment with different amounts in By: field to get it looking right.
    6. Copy and paste everyplace you need a degree sign.

UPDATE: My embedded example didn't work, here's the PPT example showing the GAP between the degree symbol and the Celsius abbreviation.

    Hi Neo,

Yes, I still have the issue. I'm using Arial font, and had the same when I was using Calibri in the past.

    Thanks,

    Violet

    Hi Violet,

Based on my test, I copy "20°C" from your first reply and paste them into my slide and the degree symbol display well. After that, I add the degree symbol my self and it also display directly next to the temperature. You can have a look:

The first one is come from your post.

I add the second one(Insert>Symbol>degree symbol)

To check if this issue is related to add-ins, I'd like to suggest you launch PowerPoint in safe mode to see the outcome.

If this issue persists, please share with me more info as below to let me have a better understanding of this issue:

    1. The version number of your Office(File>Account>Produce Info) and OS(Win+R>Type CMD click OK).
    2. Can you reproduce this issue on other slides/presentations?
    3. The steps you insert the degree symbol.

    Thanks,

    Neo
