Data migration from network drive to SharePoint online.

I would like to migrate data from source network drive to SharePoint online document library.

1)  I would also like the metadata (e.g. created data, modified date, modified by) related to the source files/folders to remain intact. Is it possible?

  1. I heard a tool called “Content Matrix” that would handle the migration separately.  Can we use that ?

    Hi PJ_R,

Thank you for your message in this forum.

If you want to migrate data from source network drive to SharePoint online document library, you can use OneDrive sync client. If you are using Windows, you can refer to this articleto sync SharePoint files with new OneDrive sync client. And if you are using Mac, you can refer to this articleto sync file with OneDrive sync client on Mac OS.

There’s no out of the box way to remain metadata intact. To address your concern about this situation, We’d suggest you kindly vote this UserVoice: Preservation of metadata, inherent properties of Office files after uploading them from local drives to SharePoint- a fundamental need !. The high votes may make the team pay more attention to this. This is the best platform to let us hear from you and to make our products and services better for you and others.

For Content Matrix, as this category is dedicated to Office 365 Business, so we would suggest you can post a thread to Content Matrix Community to get related help, which is dedicated to handling Content Matrix related queries.

     Thank you for your understanding!

    Regards,

    Sukie
