MS WORD touchpad - two finger tap not working

I have a one-month old, Acer Aspire 5 with a precision touchpad.

I have all the touchpad taps enabled. ....

-tap with single finger to single-click

-tap with two fingers to right-click

-tap twice and drag to multi-select

-press the lower right corner of the touchpad to right-click

-drag two fingers to scroll

-pinch to zoom

All these work everywhere on my computer... Windows, browsers, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint...

BUT - NOT for MS WORD.

In MS Word, I CAN:

-select one word with single finger double tap

-tap twice and drag to multi-select

-triple tap to select paragraph

-two finger scroll

I CANNOT:

  • tap with two fingers to right-click - I don't get the menu/additional commands (copy, paste, etc)...it just deselects the word(s).

Help please!

Monica

In Word, add the Touch/Mouse Mode command to your Quick Access Toolbar. Click that command and see if the behavior changes.

And I forgot to mention in my original post that I uninstalled and re-installed Office and that did not help.

    Thanks

    Thank you for your help.

I opened Word in safe mode and still had the same problem. Please advise next steps.

    Thank you!

Thank you for responding. However, this did not help.

    Gratefully,

    Hi Monica,

To isolate your concern, we suggest that you start Office in Safe Mode because there is a possibility that third party add-ins might be causing this. Safe mode lets you safely use Word without encountering certain startup programs.

You can open Word in safe mode by pressing and holding Ctrlwhile you start the program or by using the "/safe*"* (that is, winword /safe) option when you start the program from the command line. When you run Word in safe mode, it bypasses functionality and settings such as alternative startup location, changed toolbars, and Word add-ins. (However, COM add-ins are excluded.)

Note: To stop Office Safe Mode, exit and restart your Office application.

If the issue doesn't occur in the Safe Mode as follows, enable your add-ins one at a time until you hit that one that is causing the conflict. Leave that one disabled or uninstall it. For more information about enabling and removing add-ins in Office, you can check this link and go to the sections: Enable an add-in and Permanently disable or remove an add-in.

Here's are the steps on how to disable add-ins one at a time:

    1. Click on the File tab and then click Options.
    2. When the Options menu appears, click on Add-Ins.
    3. Click Go next to the Manage list at the bottom of the menu.
    4. Uncheck one of the add-ins, and then click OK.
    5. Restart the application, but do not use Safe mode.

If you continue to have this issue even after performing the above steps, please reply to this thread. The system will notify us so we can get back to you and provide you more answers.
