msaccess 32 bit vs 64 bit issue

I have developed my app.accdb/accde with a 32 bit version of office. I am trying to run the accde on a new 64 bit computer that has a 64 bit version of office.  When I try to launch it, it says it can't because it was developed w/a 32 bit version.

What are my options?

@Karen,

Yes, deploying for both 32 and 64 bit Office can be a bit tedious.  The easiest way to handle this is to encourage your clients, when they upgrade to a new version of Office, to purchase the 32 bit version.  As Gina mentioned above, very few companies need the capabilities of 64bit Office, and Microsoft even encourages companies to get the 32 bit version if they don't need the very large number capability of Excel.  However, if you do have clients running the same application on different bitness versions (32 bit vs 64 bit) of Office (don't confuse this with 32 and 64 bit operating systems), then you will need to create two accde files, one for each version, and that accde file will have to be created on a computer which has the correct bitness of Office.

    You cannot have both the 64 bit and 32 bit on the same machine.  You must use PtrSafe so not sure what you mean by stay current.  PtrSafe is what is used.  64 bit Access has it's own issues and it's recommended by Microsoft to use 32 bit UNLESS you need the special services the Excel 64 bit offers (which is only about 10% of the population).

    I would rather stay current. If I install the 64 bit version of MSAccess on my computer (which is a 64 bit version of Windows)

    1. Will I have any issues opening and updating my accdb to a 64 bit version?
    2. Once I create the accde with 64 bit, will my current 32 bit as well as 64 bit users of MS Access runtime have any issues running my newly updated 64 bit version?
