I can't associate url:ms-excel and url:MS-word with Word and Excel

Hi,

I can't associate url:ms-excel and url:MS-word with Word and Excel. I have a Windows account that I use to logon to my computer and an Office 365 account for my business. When I try to associate these apps with their respective protocols, I get a message stating there is no app installed to open this file type. I am then directed to the app store to purchase Word and Excel. I have already paid for an Office 365 for Business subscription and I have installed Office Pro Plus. At present I cannot open Word or Excel from Teams or Sharepoint.

Thanks

Alistair

Hi Alistair,

Did you try the steps mentioned in the following article to associate Word and Excel?

Switch protocol associations to desktop Office

If the steps from the above article didn’t work, try repairing Office apps, check if this resolves the issue:

  1. Click Start, in the search box typeRun
  2. In the Run box, type appwiz.cpl and click OK.
  3. Select **Microsoft Office 365,**click Change>Quick or Online Repair.

If the issue persists, please confirm the following information:

  1. **** Do you get any error when opening Word or Excel from SharePoint/Teams? If so, please provide the screenshot for clarification.
  2. ****Please provide the screenshot of Excel Product Information. To get this screenshot, open Excel or Word, click File>Account, capture the screenshot of all the information mentioned under Product Information.
  3. How did you try associating apps and the screenshot of **** the error you received.

Thanks,

Neha
