Migrating shared mailboxes to O365? (Hybrid Exchange)

Hi. What is the correct procedure to migrate shared mailboxes to O365?

I've managed to move a couple of users now, after having their accounts synced using Azure AD Connect. I tried syncing the AD accounts of shared mailboxes to O365 as well, but it doesn't seem to work. And in the Exchange Admin Console, I don't see the shared mailboxes if I want to run the wizard to move them to Exchange Online. I've struggled all day to find a solution to this.

Indeed. Changing the admin of the endpoint was most likely the resolution (tried lots of other things which failed, or maybe not patient enough, but I think this was the solution).

Also strange that now I am using the original admin account again for successful migrations.

    Thanks for the reply.

    1. What exactly would you like to see? The properties all look normal at first sight.
    2. There's no error message in the GUI, the mailbox is simply invisible. If I try with PowerShell, I get

The operation couldn't be performed because object 'x' couldn't be found

    on 'someserver.PROD.OUTLOOK.COM'.

    1. Exchange 2013 with latest CU
    2. it happens to all the on-prem shared mailboxes, with one exception. On the O365, there's an alias for one that is forwarded to on-prem from before the move. I do see that one with it's O365 alias name. Do I have to create the shared mailboxes on Exchange Online manually (since they don't sync), then migrate them?

    Hello Jeffrey,

Welcome to post you query here.

It may be related to the shared mailbox itself as it doesn't be assigned the license. If you assign a license to shared mailbox and then migrate it. When you finish the migration, covert the moved "shared" mailbox to the real shared mailbox and then remove the license. Have you tried this way?

    Regards,

    Rudy
