Heading Borders

I'm having to use a template which I did not create and I'm limited in the changes that I can make.

This template uses bottom borders on three levels of Heading Styles - Heading 1 has 1 1/2 pt bottom border; Heading 2 has 1 1/2 pt bottom border; Heading 3 has 1/2 pt bottom border.

If Heading 2 follows Heading 1 i.e. they are line 1 and line 2, the border under Heading 1 disappears. Yet when Heading 3 follows Heading 2, and the weight of the border changes, they both appear (see sample below).

I've tried to update Heading 1 with a heavier bottom border but it hasn't worked.

Another suggestion was made to highlight both Heading 1 and Heading 2 and add an inside border, however, this leads to other issues with spacing After the Styles which I'm unable to change.

I'm out of ideas, have you got any?

I replied the other day saying I was unable to PM. However, my solution is to change the weight of the bottom border progressively and this seems to work.

    Thanks

The workaround I suggested has some limitations. For example, it usually won't work if the two consecutive paragraphs have different text indents applied to them.

You could of course go back to my initial workaround: add a blank paragraph formatted in Normal style. It isn't ideal, but it will do the trick in this case.

See if setting an internal border for both Heading 1 and Heading 2 works for you. To do that, first apply Heading 1 to two consecutive paragraphs, select them both (selecting is a crucial step here!) and display the Modify Style dialog box. Navigate to the options for borders (via Format > Border), click in the preview to activate the internal border and click OK. Repeat the procedure for Heading 2.

You can "cheat" by adding a blank paragraph following the Heading 1 (just press Enter). Both borders will show up. See screen shot below.

    Hi DelmaSwe,

Seems you have pasted a picture in the question as the sample but it cannot be shown up. You could upload the screenshot as shown in the figure below:

Besides, we would like to collect the template viaPrivate Messageto help check the situation from our end.

In the meantime, you could try customizing a Word template by following Save a Word document as a template if necessary.

    Regards,

    Eli
