I have a Word document and there is some issue I can't solve. The text is visible in the Outline view but not in a print layout and additionally when I want to print it out not all pages are visible. I inspected the document to see if maybe there was some hidden text or collapsed headers but everything seems fine. What to do? Are there any settings I'm not aware of? Please help!

Hi MSandach,

You can try to run your Word in safe mode to see the result.

Here is an article for your reference: Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC

In addition, please make sure that there are no words which are hidden in your file:

Press Ctrl + A to select all the content in the file> Right Click the content> Font...> In Effects, uncheck the "Hidden" box> OK.

To better understand your situation and provide help for you, please help confirm some information for further troubleshooting:

  1. What are your Office product name and full version number?

You can capture a screenshot refer to this article: What version of Office am I using?

  1. When did the issue start to occur? Were there any changes made or updates prior to the issue occurring?
  2. Does the issue happen with all the Word files or a specific file? Does the issue happen with a new Word file?
  3. What will happen if you type in the print layout in the affected file?
  4. Please also capture two screenshot of the affected file in print layout and outline layout to share with me.

Best Regards,

Gloria

Make sure you haven't tagged every row in the table as a header row. If the header is formatted as "Keep with next" (as it normally should be), make sure that the following row is not too deep to fit on the page (or at least has "Allow rows to break across pages" enabled). Long single-row tables can cause problems in Word, especially if they contain footnote references. It's advisable to break tables to a new row at least once a page.

Also, "Repeat as header row" won't work if the table is wrapped.

    Hi Gloria,

    Thank you for your reply.

I checked the hidden option already so all text is visible.

    1. I have Office 365 ProPlus, version 1803.
    2. I had one similar problem like this last week but that was because of hidden text, no prior updates
    3. It happened to one specific file
    4. If I type a new text then everything works and it is visible in both views
    5. Unfortunately the file is highly confidential so I can't share it, and I know that it is hard to help when you can't see the file

However I realized that there was a table on one page and I used: Repeat as a header row on the top of each page, and that cause some problem. Even scrolling through the file was not freezing Word. I'm not sure why that could cause any problems but after deleting that i can see more.

    Thank you for your help!

    Best,

    Martyna

    Hi,

If you want, save a sample document with the problem on OneDrive or Dropbox and paste a link here. Remove any confidential or sensitive information first. I or someone else can take a look at it.

You would want to make sure that the sample has the same problem but does not have your confidential information.
