Auto text stopped working

I run a medical transcription business from my home, and this is the second time in one month that my auto text has stopped working.  I have tried everything, looked at everything, boxes are checked...etc.  I cannot find the normal template where all my insertions should have been stored.  I had literally hundreds of words and phrases in there that appear to be deleted.

Please advise how to remedy this, as this never was a problem with older versions of word.  I have 360 and pay for an annual prescription and had expected to not have issues like this crop up on me.

Thank you.

The Normal.dotm template would be located in the following folder:

    C:\Users[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

Check to see if the date of that template has changed to to-day's date?

There was a bug with an update quite some month's ago that resulted in a new Normal.dotm template being created, but at the same time, the original one was renamed as preNormal.dotm and by deleting the new one and renaming the preNormal.dotm to Normal.dotm, the customizations\autotext stored in it were once more available.

Did you make sure to enable it?:

    Open Microsoft Word.

    Click the File tab.

    Click on Options.

In the Word Options window, click the Proofing option.

    Click the AutoCorrect Options button.

In the AutoCorrect window, click the AutoCorrect tab if not already selected.

Check or uncheck the box for the Replace text as you type option, to enable AutoText.

    Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me on this.  I was able to get into the template folder, and there are two documents, one says normal.dot and the other says normal.dotm.  The normal.dot.m is 19.4 killobytes and I presume that is my listing.  So, are you saying to delete the normal.dot one (there is nothing in the properties as to its size) and the other may work?  I don't have a pre and or new normal one.

    Louise

You can put your AutoText in a separate template. This can be loaded as a Global Template  or stored in your Building Blocks folder. The first AutoText entry saved in such a template must be saved from the template itself or a document attached to the template. Thereafter, they can be saved on the fly from any document.

Where can Building Blocks be stored?
