Hi,

We have OnPrem VDI Infrastructure (Windows 10). I am trying to install Office 365 on the VDI machine (image). I customize office 365 install and choose "OneDrive Desktop". Now, I understand that users have 1 TB of disk space on the cloud account. My questions are:

  1. If I install this on the VDI which does not have any disk space, how am I going to SYNC it?
  2. Can there be just a one way SYNC to the cloud and not back to the VDI machine as they a. They do not have disk space. b. They are not persistent.
  3. What about same situation for persistent desktops also which do not have disk space (or limited disk space)
  4. Will the sync will happen between the My Documents folder on the Network Share and the Cloud or how does this work?

I want to know this well ahead of time before I install Office 365.

    Hi Enfield,

Please note that OneDrive Desktop (OneDrive sync client) is a tool that sync between your OneDrive for business and your local OneDrive folder. Since there isn't any storage space on your Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, I'd suggest that you may use the OneDrive.com website to access the OneDrive for Business services. On OneDrive.com, you may create/edit your documents as well as sharing and cooperating the files with others. For the Office documents, such as a Word document or a Excel workbook, you may both open them with online applications on your browser or open them with your Office desktop applications, and the change you made on these documents will be synced to OneDrive for Business immediately.

If you are using OneDrive for Business on a on-premise PC that has limited storage, you may use the File-On-Demands feature, which only downloads files that you use to your PC. For details about this feature, you may refer to this article: Save disk space with OneDrive Files On-Demand for Windows 10

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

    Best Regards,

    Nathan
