How can I copy-paste (& keep formatting) of text written in Word into WordPress5 with Classic Editor?

Before WordPress 5, I used to be able to copy-paste a blog post written in Word into WordPress and keep the formatting.

WordPress5 stinks, so I've installed its Classic Editor plug in. However, I'm still having trouble retaining the formatting when I copy-paste into WP5's Classic Editor.

Hi sw,

You're using the Visual tab?

i hate the new editor too. I use the classic editor plug in but I always use the Text tab. I tested it with the visual tab, and formatting is kept when i paste.

I select all (ctrl+a), copy (ctrl+c) then Ctrl+V to paste into the editor.

I wish I knew. I spent over an hour a week or so ago painstakingly reformatting pasted text. I ended up having to manually edit the HTML because I couldn't get any of the formatting buttons on the toolbar to work. It's a known fact that Word creates very messy HTML, but there used to be a button to insert as plain text, and I couldn't get that to work, either. Nor did it help to strip formatting from the text in Word before pasting.

AFAICS, every "improvement" WordPress makes in the editor just makes it totally unusable. I had one page that I couldn't even get to the bottom of before I finally figured out how to hide the Page Option block/widget that was covering it up.

But this is at a website "managed" by WordPress. I don't have the same problem with my WordPress blog site, where I can compose in Word and publish directly to WP.

Thank you very much, Diane. Your technique works if I paste into the visual tab.

You are the best! I remember your name because you've helped me before.
