Slide Show will not accept audio input from external mic (MAC-Powerpoint)

For last couple weeks I have been building a PowerPoint Slide show with text animation and audio. Input using built in mic was not up to spec so purchased a YETI Pro and results became significantly better.

I Completed a slide show (audio and timings) yesterday. On review I needed to change a couple slides. Clicked on slide to start and pushed 'RECORD SLIDE SHOW'. Recorded slide audio, exited and saved recording. Played slide but nothing recorded? If I pull external mic it does record using internal mic.

Also notice that when I have slide show up and hit INSERT in tool bar and click Audio the menu is greyed out. If I go back a couple Powerpoint slide shows and press INSERT the Audio contents are not greyed out?!

Thinking it might be the USB cable, I changed that out with no change occurring.

I have checked sound preferences and they appear good.

Audacity and Garageband are installed but not running.

Any suggestions appreciated very much

As it happens I have an Office CD with Powerpoint for Mac 2011. I installed this and no issues recording!

From where I sit it looks like there is an issue with PowerPoint (Version 16.22 (190211) Office 365 Subscription.

So glad we found this post. Having the same issue. Question; when you installd the 2011 version, did it install over your current version, or was it seperate with its own icon?

    Thanks so much!

    Thank you for your help.

    • I am able to record to Quicktime Player no problem.
    • I copied slides and pasted into a new PowerPoint. Still erratic recording. Sometimes it works and then it does not.
    • Did a new Powerpoint (one slide). Was able to record OK a couple times and then was not able to.
    • Changed USB cable. Worked and then would not the next time I tried (using one slide presentation)

To confirm, in Powerpoint, I have all slides on screen, the first one has been clicked. I press 'Record Slide Show'. After my audio input I press 'End Show'. I push yes button to save. Then click start from beginning.

Sometimes it records and sometimes it does not.

When I first started a couple weeks back every thing was working fine through three consecutive PowerPoint presentations. No issues. Now recording is hit and miss.

    Hi Tinggi,

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Based on your description, you have issue when recording slide show in PowerPoint for Mac.

Firstly we'd like to suggest you ensure you are using the latest version of Office. The current latest version is 16.22(190211). If you are not using this version, you can install the latest Microsoft AutoUpdate tool and click Help>Check for Updates to install the latest version.

Besides, it seems you get the issue after changing a couple slides in the presentation, you may copy all slides in the presentation, create a new presentation, paste all slides in the new presentation and start to record slide show again with the steps in this article Record a slide show with narration and slide timings, then check the outcome.

If issue persists, please let us know the following information to troubleshoot the issue:

    1.You Mac version.

2.Does the issue occur in a specific presentation? If you do a simple test for slide show recording in other presentations, do you still have the issue?

3.Please record a reproduce video which can describe how the issue happens from your side. It would be helpful for us to know the details of the issue.

If your video contains any privacy or confidential info that is unable to share in public, you can directly share with us via PM to proceed. Appreciate your time and effort.

    Best Regards,

    Tina

Since my previous request for help I have found that after I restart the Mac, the INSERT in tool bar allows me to see AUDIO and other open boxes. I did a short recording BUT when I saver recording and played it back it was truncated AND now the AUDI in INSERT (toolbar) is grey and it will not record?

Could the slide show be corrupt?
