MacBook Pro 2018 "Microsoft Autoupdate" stuck. Won't let me force quit. Can't open Safari or Google Chrome.

It's not loading, says "Running Package Scripts" loading bar isn't moving, and buttons that say "Cancel" and "Shut down" are grayed out.

I can open excel and word but not safari or google chrome, they won't load.

I can't force quit or shut down.

    Hi Jessica

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

I would first make sure your have the latest updates for your Mac installed.

Click App Store in the Dock then check for any available updates then install them.

    Restart your Mac.

As for the Auto Update, I would try installing a new version to see if it it helps.

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?linkid=830196

That version came out on March 14.

As for Chrome, launch Finder in the Dock

    Click on Applications

Select Chrome, right click it then click Move to Trash

Restart your Mac, download and reinstall Chrome.
