Bookmarks showing up in random places in documents

I switched "on" the reveal bookmarks option in Word, and have begun noticing them appearing unexpectedly, eg here:

although I never inserted a bookmark here. Is there something that word does to interpret bookmarks that is causing this to appear. I can (and have) turn(ed) this feature off, but it remains a puzzle.

Thanks in advance.

Click inside the bookmark and then click Insert > Bookmark. Which name is displayed in the dialog box? Usually, "OLE" is part of the name if the bookmark has been created as the result of linking data.

Note that bookmarks (and often links) may also be introduced if you paste data from a web site.

Well, if I did, I was unaware of it. Is there a way to disembed these links? Or is there any harm done in letting them be?

If you have copied something and pasted it as an OLE link, Word will wrap a bookmark around the referenced text.
