Visio Shape Stencil Resizing

Hello!

I have a stencil of various shapes I would like to use in a new template I am creating, however, when I add the stencil to the template, the shapes are not the correct sizes. The stencil was initially created on a blank page I believe, and I am creating a Cross Functional Flowchart template using that stencil. I have tried changing the paper size, turning auto-size on and off, changing the units for the template and for the stencil, creating a new template, recreating the stencil, removing and readding the stencil, and I cannot seem to find the key to making it work.

I have Microsoft Visio Online Plan 2; Version 1902.

I have attached a picture of what sizes the stencil shapes should be, and what they are appearing as in the CFF template for reference.

Thank you for your help!

Above - CFF Template with shape stencil in use

Above: Blank page with shape stencil in use (Appears the same size as CFF template in the picture, but when printed, they are quite different)

Above: Printed view of CFF template with shape stencil in use compared to a blank page with the same shape stencil in use - Blue circle = should be the same size; Pink circle = should be the same size

    Hi Visio,

We appreciate that you spend your precious time providing these screenshots and files.

We tested it according to the files provided, and we found that the size of the shapes is the same whether it is on a blank page or on the page of the template in Visio application. As shown below:

At the same time, I found that there is no obvious difference in the screenshots you provided about the shapes in Visio client.

So I think the point you are concerned with is that the shapes on the paper are reduced after printing on the template. If so, I also tested it, due to the large number of graphics, I reduced the page size in order to print all the shapes on the same sheet of paper. On the printed paper, all the graphics are scaled down in the same way, just like the screenshots you provided.

So as I mentioned above, this is because there are too many shapes on the page, and the shapes will be scaled down due to the size of the set paper when printing, so this happens when you compare the size of the two shapes.

If you want to keep the size of the shapes, they won't remain on the same sheet of paper when you print. Because the size of the paper is limited.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

    Hi Visio,

Thank you for posting back and provide us detailed information.

According to your description, it seems that the size of shapes you inserted in blank page and template CFF document are different in Visio application and print page.

May I know if the scenario above is consistent with yours? If so, we’d suggest you refer to this article: Update history for Office 365 ProPlus to update your Visio to the latest version to check if the same problem will occur.

You can also go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > select the Office > right-click and select Change > Online repair.

At the same time, to narrow down this issue, I want to confirm the information below with you:

    1. Could you provide the specific Version of Visio? You can go to Visio > File > Account and provide the screenshot of it.
    2. May I know if the problem only occurs on this template? You can use another template to check if the same problem will occur.
    3. Meanwhile, because I didn't see the obvious difference from the top two screenshots you provided, so I want to collect the problematic template with you to test it on our side. Hello!

Thank you for your speedy response!

The problem is that, on the blank page, when I insert a shape from my stencil, the shapes are a particular size, but when I do the same on the template CFF document that I'm working on, the same shape is a different size (it's actually bigger than it should be).

When I print the CFF template with some of those stencil shapes on it, they are bigger than what they should be and what they are when I print the blank page with those same stencil shapes on it.

This is an issue because the shapes are sized specifically for their purpose/use and need to remain the same size in the template I am creating in order to be useful.

We are trying to go from a non-template, blank page creation of a workflow to a template CFF that can be used instead to streamline and make the process faster and easier when it comes to defining data/exporting info/creating a new workflow/etc.

I hope that that clears up the confusion!

    Hi Visio,

Thank you for providing detailed information and providing the screenshots.

You mentioned “Blue circle = should be the same size; Pink circle = should be the same size”, does it mean that your problem is that the shapes on the template page and the size of the shapes on the blank pages are different when printing?

If so, I have tested it according to your description, and I encountered the same situation as yours, each shape in the flowchart page is scaled down proportionally. This is because there are too many shapes on the page, and the shapes will be scaled down due to the size of the set paper when printing, so this happens when you compare the size of the two shapes.

If the scenario above is not consistent with yours, could you explain more details about “when I add the stencil to the template, the shapes are not the correct sizes.”? Because I didn't see the obvious difference from the top two screenshots you provided.

    Thank you for your understanding!

    Best Regards,

    Sukie
