Cursor doesn't land in the correct cell

Split from this thread.

I have the same problem and more. Not only does my cursor NOT land in the correct cell, I have to play around with the keyboard until my mouse will allow me to land in the correct cell. Sometimes I have to use my up and down arrows, etc. Sometimes I have to go to another cell and press the return key. It's very frustrating and becomes a program that just won't work. Also I can't find functions - they've been hidden away and I have to look it up on the web constantly to find out where something is. Also, functions seem to have been done away with completely, such as adding rows or columns - which used to be so simple - and there was a choice as to where to add the row and from what row. Now if I want to add a row, I don't get a choice of where to add it AND the row is formatted with all kinds of information from a row adjacent and I can't get rid of the formatting without a long and drawn out process. What the heck is going on with this program?  p.s. I have an iMac. I run High Sierra and my Excel 365 is showing v.16.27

I can't navigate, I can't copy properly, and I'm being forced to enter text that I've already entered in another cell, I can't alter the width of the columns or rows as easily, my fonts are being changed, if I click on a cell, two of them open up and I can't enter information except in one of them, Cell fill options are no longer as easy as before - there are no longer as many choices, Freeze panes and split windows etc offer no choices at all and it's almost impossible to know what rows are frozen and how it happened. Freeze panes offers no choice at all.

I just bought a yearly subscription to Office Business Pro and I'm beginning to be sorry!

Please tell me there's going to be a BIG fix for all of this - it's so unproductive!

    Hi

I split your reply off because the other thread is about Office 2016 and you have Office 2019, a completely different product.

The problem you describe existed in an older version and was fixed by updates. Are you using a fresh install from scratch of Excel, or did this start happening right after something else happened, such as installing an update?

Freeze panes is not available in Page Layout view. Is that the View you are using? If so, switching to Normal view will let you use Freeze Panes.

Please experiment with using different views and zoom settings and reply with the results.

    Thanks.

    Hi LydiaFife,

We test it on our Mac and didn't encounter the same situation. May I know have you tried restart you Mac. If not, you can try it and check the result.

In addition, the latest version of Excel for Mac is 16.27 (Build 19071500). I know your Excel also is 16.27. But Build version difference may also affect Excel usage. So please update it if your Excel for Mac is not the latest build version.

To update: open Word>On the top menu, go to Help > Check for Updates.

If update Excel didn’t solve this issue , you can remove files from your user Library folder to clear the Excel cache:

    1.In Finder, press Command +Shift+g.

2.In the window that opens, enter ~/Library and then click Go.

3.Open the Containers folder and ctrl+click the below folder and Move to Trash.

    com.microsoft.Excel

If this issue still persist, in order to check whether it related to add-ins in Excel, you can remove add-ins by this way:

Open Excel>Insert>My Add-ins>See All>right click the add-ins and select Remove

You can also open mac in Safe Mode to check whether it related to incompatibly login items:

1.Start or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key.

2.Release the Shift key when you see the login window

3.To leave safe mode, restart your Mac without pressing any keys during startup

If you still need help, in order to help you effectively, could you provide the following information:

1..Is it that just one specific Excel file have this situation or all the files have this situation?

    2.What about other Office applications?

    Regard,

    Nina
