Customize NDR report. Exchange Online. Office 365.

Hi experts,

Is it possible to customize non-delivery report in Exchange Online (Office 365) to exclude the e-mails of recipients from it?

For example:

I have a closed Distribution List and I need to open it for some external partners domain or specific e-mails.

I created a mail flow rule to reject all incoming mail with explanation except specific domains and addresses which are allowed to send.

But non-delivery report which Exchange sends back to sender includes all e-mails from this distribution list.

Could it be fixed?

Thanks.

    Hello DenisIvanov4,

Sorry for the delay reply. I tested it by my side and all emails in the distribution list aren’t sent to the sender. The sender only receives the NDR like this:

May I confirm that this is your situation either? If not, please feel free to let me know.

As far as I know, there is no other way to customize NDR. To help us improve our functions, we recommend you post your idea in Office 365 UserVoice. Your suggestion is important to us.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

    Best Regards,

    Sylvie

    Hello DenisIvanov4,

Sorry for the delay reply. Many thanks for your detailed information. Now I understand that the members of the distribution list are auto-expanded in NDR which you don’t want to. However, due to my test results, the distribution list didn’t be expanded. As shown in the following screenshot, it only displays the group address:

Here is my transport rule settings:

Therefore, may I confirm that if you use distribution list in Office 365? For your reference:

Create distribution lists in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Please kindly check whether your settings are similar to mine.  If it is convenience, please feel free to share your transport rule’s setting so that we can test it by our side.

    Your cooperation is highly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Sylvie

    Dear Sylvie,

Thank you for reply and your time to reproduce the issue.

I have a special transport rules, which allows some e-mails from partner domains and some special whitelisted e-mails to be able to send to this distribution list. Probably that's because of this.

Take a look at screenshot please. It looks like distribution list was auto-expanded in NDR. This is the situation I want to avoid.
