Extra margin in Excel when saving to PDF

When printing from Excel direct to a printer – the work is a certain size – and starts 25mm from the left edge.

If I print to PDF (via Excel built-in save to PDF or via Adobe PDF – the work is smaller – and starts 40mm from the left edge.

I know that there has always been some shrinkage – but it seems more than before – can we remove the shrinkage in Excel?

Can you please let me know how to do that.

Thanks

    Hi Shiena2019,

Welcome to post on our forum, may I know whether this issue occur in print preview or only occur when they being printed? We tested on our side to print an Excel worksheet to a printer and PDF with the Margins was set to 25mm, like the below picture:

And the test result is the margins are same when printed them as well as in print preview(like below picture). So if the situation not like that, in order to help you more effectively, could you provide a screenshot and more details about “the shrinkage in Excel”. We will test on our side and try our best to find a solution.

Please also provide a screenshot of the version of your Excel. To check version:open Excel >File > Account>Product information(Please mask your private information for protecting your private information)

In addition, as a workaround you can try to set the Custom Margins to check whether can solve this question: File> Print>Settings like below picture:

    Thanks for your efforts.

    Regards,

    Nina

    Hi Shiena2019,

As we can’t also reproduce this situation on our side which has the same situation. You can let the user open the Excel in safe mode to check whether related to the add-ins:

    1. Right-click the Start button (lower-left corner) in Windows, and click Run.
    2. In the Run box, type the command Type excel /safe, and click OK.

If this situation persist, he can try repairing Excel. About how to repair an Office application, he can refer to this article. When he has done, he might need to restart your computer.

In addition, for further understanding and analysis this issue, we may still need you provide a screenshot about “add an extra shrinkage which makes the text smaller”. Thanks for your efforts.

    Regards,

    Nina

    Hello Nina,

It is being shown on print preview and when printed out.

The issue is happening in one computer of the staff only. I can't replicate it on my Excel as well as it's not happening on my Excel either. We have the same version which is 11328.20368.

Changing the margins has the same result when printing to PDF, it will add an extra shrinkage which makes the text smaller.

    Thanks

    Regards,

    Shiena

    Hello OssieMac,

The issue is the printing from "Excel to PDF" and "PDF to Printer" where they are having issues.

PDF on the screen and printed output are the same.

Binding option when printing the PDF is also not enabled.

    Thanks

Is this appearing on the screen or printed output?

Usually when printing pdf files there is an option for binding and if long side binding is selected the left side margin is wider so check all of the properties/options when printing the pdf file.
